Blackmagic Design BMD-BDLKMINIREC4K DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K

$215.00

Record SD, HD, or 4K footage via HDMI or SDI with the Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K. Whether recording for broadcast or backing up older media to newer, more robust formats for current projects, the Decklink Mini Recorder 4K has you covered. The input panel holds a single SD/HD/3G/6G-SDI input and an HDMI 2.0 input, both capable of DCI and UHD 4K resolutions.

Consumer and professional video codecs are supported, including H.264, Apple ProRes, AVC-Intra, and more, allowing full-resolution input of nearly any project. Wide software support including Blackmagic Design's own DaVinci Resolve and Fusion in addition to other popular platforms such as Apple's Final Cut Pro X, Avid's Media Composer, and Adobe's Premiere and After Effects CC, allows for the same hardware to be used with changing workflows over time.

The card itself requires an open PCI-Express slot conforming to at least PCI-E 2.0 x4 specifications. PCI-E x8 and x16 slots in 2.0 and 3.0 variants can also be used. A full-height bracket comes pre-installed, and a low-profile bracket is included for installation in a small form-factor PC or an external chassis.

About the Blackmagic Design BMD-BDLKMINIREC4K DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K

The Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K is an ultra-compact, external capture device designed to add professional 4K video capture capabilities to laptops and desktop computers via a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) connection. It is a streamlined, single-purpose tool focused on high-quality recording, making it ideal for journalists, videographers, editors, and streamers who need to capture clean 4K feeds from cameras, switchers, or other SDI or HDMI sources directly to editing software on the go. Unlike larger internal PCIe cards, its small form factor and bus-powered design offer exceptional portability for field and mobile editing suites.

The device supports a wide range of formats up to 2160p30 (4K) in 4:2:2 via its HDMI 2.0 input, and up to 1080p60 via its 3G-SDI input. It captures video as uncompressed 10-bit YUV or 8-bit RGB frames directly into the computer's memory, ensuring no quality loss during acquisition. This makes it perfect for capturing high-quality footage for editing in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or for live streaming with software like OBS or vMix. A key feature is its ability to accept an SDI or HDMI input with embedded audio, capturing both video and audio channels in perfect sync without the need for separate audio cables.

Simple and reliable, the Mini Recorder 4K requires no external power or drivers for macOS (Windows requires a driver install). It is recognized by the host computer as a standard video input device. While it lacks advanced features like hardware encoding, Genlock, or dedicated outputs found on larger DeckLink cards, its strength lies in its simplicity, portability, and high-quality capture for a single source. It is an essential tool for turning any modern Thunderbolt 3-equipped laptop into a capable 4K field recorder or ingest station.
