About the Allen & Heath GL2800 Analog Mixing Console

The Allen & Heath GL2800 is a professional, medium-format analog mixing console that has established itself as a benchmark for live sound reinforcement, renowned for its robust construction, transparent sonic performance, and logical, flexible layout. As a core model in the classic GL series, it is engineered to handle the demands of touring, theater, houses of worship, and fixed installations where reliability and high-quality audio are non-negotiable. The console is available in multiple frame sizes, typically offering between 24 and 40 input channels, each equipped with a high-headroom, low-noise microphone preamplifier, a comprehensive 4-band EQ with two sweepable mid-frequency bands, and flexible routing to multiple mix buses. Its straightforward yet powerful signal flow allows engineers to quickly and intuitively build complex mixes, with clear visual feedback from high-resolution LED metering on every channel and subgroup.

A key strength of the GL2800 is its versatile bus structure and monitoring capabilities. It features eight auxiliary sends per channel, with six being configurable as either pre- or post-fader, providing ample resources for stage monitors, effects sends, and other independent mixes. The console includes eight mono subgroups or four stereo subgroups, allowing for logical grouping of inputs like drums or backing vocals, and features dedicated LCR panning controls for precise placement in stereo or three-channel surround applications. The master section is comprehensive, with solo and mute controls that can be assigned to separate PFL and AFL solo buses, a dedicated talkback section with oscillator, and extensive matrix outputs derived from the main, subgroup, and aux mixes for feeding front fills, recording feeds, or overflow rooms.

Built into a rugged, steel-reinforced chassis with a distinctive angled design for improved operator access, the GL2800 is designed for both durability and serviceability. Its modular construction facilitates easy maintenance and repair in the field, a critical feature for touring consoles. The internal power supply is robust and designed for clean, stable operation across varying AC conditions. With its combination of a warm, musical analog signal path, extensive routing options, and road-ready build quality, the Allen & Heath GL2800 represents a timeless workhorse console that continues to deliver professional results in a wide array of demanding audio environments.
