The Pelican 1200 is part of the legendary Protector Case™ line, renowned for offering total protection for equipment since 1976. It is constructed from a proprietary, ultra-high impact structural copolymer polypropylene, using an open-cell core with solid wall construction that makes it exceptionally strong yet lighter than solid core cases. The case is completely watertight, crushproof, and dustproof, providing a secure fortress for delicate items.

The watertight seal is achieved through a tongue-and-groove fit and a durable polymer O-ring. For changes in atmospheric pressure, such as during air travel, the case includes an automatic pressure equalization valve that releases built-up air pressure while preventing water entry. The interior typically comes with Pick N' Pluck™ foam layers (or can be purchased without), which consist of pre-scored cubes that allow users to customize the interior to the exact shape of their gear, providing tailored shock protection. Hardware is made of stainless steel for corrosion resistance, and the easy-open double-throw latches provide a secure closure that is simple to operate.
