What Makes a Conference Room Projector?

Conference room projectors are designed for business environments where presentations need to look sharp even with the lights on. They prioritize brightness, reliability, and ease of use over home theater projector features like deep blacks or cinematic color.

Key characteristics include high lumen output (typically 3,000 to 7,000+ lumens) for visibility in well-lit rooms, multiple connectivity options for laptops and mobile devices, and mounting flexibility for ceiling or table placement. Many models feature laser or LED light sources that last 20,000 hours or more without replacement lamps, reducing maintenance and total cost of ownership.

Have Questions?

What brands of conference room projectors does AVGear carry?

We stock projectors from Epson, BenQ, Sony, Panasonic, Christie, NEC, Optoma, ViewSonic, and other professional manufacturers. Beyond projectors, we carry projector lenses, LED video walls, projection screens, mounts, and commercial displays - everything you need to outfit a complete conference room for less. Inventory changes regularly, so check back often or contact our team if you're looking for something specific.

Does AVGear buy used conference room projectors?

Yes. We purchase projectors from corporate offices, universities, houses of worship, government facilities, and AV integrators. Whether you have a single unit or a fleet to liquidate, submit your gear through our Sell Your Gear page for a valuation.

What is the difference between LCD and DLP projectors?

LCD projectors use liquid crystal panels to produce bright, color-accurate images with sharp detail. They're ideal for data-heavy presentations and well-lit rooms. DLP projectors use a chip with microscopic mirrors to create high-contrast images with deep blacks and smooth motion. DLP units are typically more compact and require less maintenance. Both technologies work well in conference room settings; the choice depends on your priorities for color, contrast, and room conditions.

How many lumens do I need for a conference room projector?

For rooms with controlled lighting, 3,000 to 4,000 lumens works well. Rooms with ambient light from windows or bright overhead fixtures need 4,000 lumens or more. Large boardrooms and auditoriums may require 5,000 to 7,000+ lumens for clear visibility across bigger screen sizes.

What resolution is best for business presentations?

Full HD (1920 x 1080) handles most presentation content well, including text, spreadsheets, and video. WUXGA (1920 x 1200) offers extra vertical space for documents. 4K resolution provides the sharpest detail for large screens or content-heavy presentations but costs more.

What's the difference between laser and lamp projectors?

Lamp projectors use replaceable bulbs that typically last 3,000 to 5,000 hours. Laser projectors use solid-state light sources rated for 20,000+ hours with minimal brightness degradation. Laser projectors cost more upfront but reduce long-term maintenance and lamp replacement costs.

Learn more about the difference between laser and lamp projectors.

What is throw distance?

Throw distance is the space between the projector lens and the projector screen. The throw ratio describes how much distance is needed to produce a given image width. A short throw ratio (below 1:1) projects a larger image from a closer position, while a long throw ratio (above 2:1) requires more distance for the same image size. Check throw ratio specifications and consider your screen's aspect ratio to find the best projector for your room layout.

Can I ceiling mount a conference room projector?

Yes. Most conference room projectors support ceiling mounting with compatible brackets. Ceiling mounting keeps the projector out of the way and provides a clean installation. Some models include lens shift and zoom for easier alignment.

Do conference room projectors have built-in speakers?

Many do, but built-in speakers are typically adequate only for small rooms. Larger conference rooms benefit from external audio systems for better sound coverage and volume.

What connectivity options should I look for in a projector system?

HDMI is standard for laptops and media players. USB-C connectivity supports newer laptops and tablets. Wireless options like Miracast or dedicated wireless modules allow cable-free presentations from multiple devices. Network connectivity enables remote management and control.
