  • 3.5mm male TRS to mini-XLR male connectors: The cable features a male 3.5mm TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) connector on one end and a male 3-pin mini-XLR connector on the other.
  • Dual-mono adaptation: It adapts an unbalanced "dual-mono" signal from a 3.5mm output into a balanced mini-XLR input. This prevents common ground loop noise and interference in the audio signal.
  • Durable and low-noise construction: The cable is made with high-quality, robust materials designed to withstand the demands of on-location filmmaking. The low-noise design ensures clean, clear audio recording.
  • Short and flexible length: The cable is short to keep a camera rig tidy and prevent excess cable from getting in the way. It is also designed to be flexible for easy setup and positioning.
  • Right-angle connector: Some versions of the MX-M1 feature a right-angle connector, which helps with cable management and provides a more compact, less obtrusive connection.

About the Azden AZDEN-MX-M1 3.5mm Male TRS to Mini-XLR Male Cable

The Azden AZDEN-MX-M1 is a specialized interface cable designed to solve a common connectivity challenge in professional and prosumer audio-video production. It functions as a crucial adaptor, bridging equipment with different connector standards by converting a 3.5mm TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) output into a male Mini-XLR input. This specific configuration is frequently employed to connect consumer or prosumer audio sources, such as portable audio recorders, DSLR cameras, or smartphone headphone jacks, to professional wireless microphone receiver systems that utilize a Mini-XLR microphone input. The cable essentially allows a line-level or headphone-level stereo signal to be fed into a device expecting a mono microphone-level signal, enabling greater flexibility in field setups.

Constructed for durability in demanding environments, the cable features robust connectors with metal housings that resist physical wear and corrosion. The 3.5mm TRS plug is typically gold-plated to ensure optimal conductivity and prevent signal degradation, while the Mini-XLR connector follows the professional three-pin standard with a secure locking mechanism to prevent accidental disconnection during movement. The cable itself is of a manageable length, providing enough slack for flexible equipment placement without introducing excessive cable clutter or potential for entanglement. This careful build quality ensures reliable signal transmission and physical longevity, which is essential for equipment that is frequently packed, transported, and deployed on location.

In practical application, this cable is an indispensable tool for sound mixers and videographers who need to integrate diverse pieces of gear into a cohesive system. A typical use case involves patching the stereo output of a field mixer or recorder into the audio input of a wireless transmitter pack, or feeding a camera's audio output into a separate recording device for backup. By providing a direct, hardwired connection, it offers a more reliable alternative to makeshift adaptor combinations, eliminating points of failure and maintaining a clean, balanced audio path. The AZDEN-MX-M1 exemplifies a focused, problem-solving accessory that, while simple in concept, plays a vital role in ensuring professional audio connectivity across mixed equipment ecosystems.
