The Rane Serato Scratch Live interface is an essential piece of hardware in a DVS (Digital Vinyl System) setup. It acts as the bridge between analog turntables/CD players and a computer running Serato Scratch Live software. The interface reads a timecode signal from a special vinyl record or CD, translates that signal to the software, which then plays the digital audio file. The interface simultaneously sends the processed digital audio back out to a mixer for playback.
