About the ETC CEM+ Lighting Control Module
The ETC CEM+ (Control Electronics Module Plus) is a critical power and control interface module designed for use within ETC's Sensor dimming systems. It serves as the intelligent link between the low-voltage control network—typically ETCNet or DMX—and the high-voltage power circuits feeding theatrical or architectural lighting fixtures. Each CEM+ module is responsible for controlling a defined number of dimmer outputs, commonly 2, 4, or 6 dimmers per module, depending on the model. Its primary function is to translate digital control signals into precise phase-control outputs, enabling smooth, flicker-free dimming of incandescent and certain types of LED or resistive loads, while providing comprehensive status feedback and protection.
Housed within a Sensor dimmer rack, the CEM+ module slides into a designated slot and connects directly to the rack's backplane for power and data. It incorporates advanced microprocessor control for accurate dimming curves, user-selectable profiles, and load management. Key features include electronic circuit breakers for each output, which provide faster and more reliable protection than thermal breakers, and extensive diagnostic capabilities such as load monitoring, temperature sensing, and error reporting. This information is communicated back to the lighting console or monitoring software, allowing technicians to identify issues like overloads, short circuits, or lamp failures remotely.
The module is designed for high reliability in demanding 24/7 installation environments and rigorous touring conditions. It supports a variety of control protocols and can be configured via physical controls on its faceplate or through networked software. By consolidating control, power switching, and protection into a single, hot-swappable unit, the ETC CEM+ simplifies system maintenance and enhances safety. It is a foundational component of professional dimming infrastructure, trusted in theaters, television studios, cruise ships, and architectural installations worldwide for its performance, flexibility, and robust build quality.
