Roland VH-11 V-Hi-Hat

$0.00

With eyes closed, drummers will think they’re playing a regular two-piece hi-hat. But examine the innovative new VH-11 floating hi-hat, and you’ll see that it’s actually comprised of one floating cymbal pad atop a fixed lower base. Great for fast setup and easy transport, the VH-11 mounts on conventional hi-hat stands, and provides a similar playing feel to a 2-piece hi-hat. The VH-11 is fully compatible with Roland's TD-20, TD-20X, TD-12, TD-9 and TD-4, and can be used with TD-10 with TDW-1, TD-8 and TD-6/-6V.

About the Roland VH-11 V-Hi-Hat

The Roland VH-11 is a professional V-Hi-Hat system designed to deliver an exceptionally realistic and expressive hi-hat playing experience for electronic drum kits. Unlike simple pedal-triggered switches, the VH-11 combines a dedicated hi-hat pad (mounted on a standard hi-hat stand) with a sophisticated control pedal to create a continuous range of articulation, from tightly closed "chick" sounds to fully open, sizzling washes. The system consists of two main components: a specialized hi-hat pad that uses a combination of piezo and optical sensors, and a control box that processes the signals from the pad and pedal. This allows it to accurately translate not just open/closed states, but also the subtle, variable pressure a drummer applies with their foot on the pedal and the exact position of the top cymbal, providing nuanced control over hi-hat sounds.

The hi-hat pad itself is built with a durable playing surface and is designed to be mounted on a standard acoustic hi-hat stand, providing a familiar physical feel. The optical sensor within the pad measures the distance between the top cymbal and the bottom base, which changes as the drummer presses the pedal. This distance data, combined with strike information from the piezo trigger, is sent to a compatible Roland drum module (such as the TD-27, TD-50, or TD-30). The module uses this continuous positional data to trigger the appropriate sound from its hi-hat sample library, allowing for realistic transitions between closed, half-open, and open sounds, as well as the ability to play the hi-hat with the pedal (foot splashes) or by striking it with a stick.

The VH-11 is celebrated for its ability to replicate the dynamic behavior of an acoustic hi-hat more closely than any simpler electronic solution. It supports advanced techniques like playing the edge or bow of the hi-hat and creating variable pressure for different tonal qualities. By providing this level of expressiveness, the Roland VH-11 V-Hi-Hat becomes a critical component for drummers who want their electronic kit to respond and feel like an acoustic set, making it an essential upgrade for serious electronic drummers seeking the most authentic and responsive hi-hat performance available.
