The Shure SM48S is an entry-level, unidirectional (cardioid) dynamic microphone tailored specifically for capturing lead and backup vocals, as well as spoken word applications. It maintains a true cardioid pattern throughout its frequency range (55 Hz to 14 kHz), which ensures high gain before feedback and effective rejection of off-axis sounds and background noise. This makes it ideal for use on a busy stage or in acoustically challenging environments. The microphone's frequency response is further enhanced with a brightened mid-range presence boost to project vocals clearly through a mix, and a low-frequency roll-off to control the proximity effect, preventing a "boomy" sound when the user is close to the mic.
