The CVS 401 features a coaxial transducer design with a 4-inch polypropylene driver and a 0.75-inch ferrofluid-cooled soft dome high-frequency driver, which ensures a wide and even sound dispersion. The speaker is designed for reliability with durable components, including a weather- and UV-resistant UL 94-V0 ABS front baffle and a mineral-loaded polypropylene cone with a butyl rubber surround. The speaker is housed in an integral zinc-plated steel back can, which provides a fire-rated enclosure and also helps optimize low-frequency performance. For installation flexibility, the CVS 401 includes a low-insertion loss 70V/100V line transformer with multiple power taps and an 8-ohm direct input option.

The speaker comes with a comprehensive mounting package, including C-ring and tile rails, to simplify installation in various ceiling types. The unobtrusive semi-matte white finish (or black on the CVS 401-BK model) allows it to blend seamlessly into most environments.
