About the JBL VRX908LA 8" 2-Way Passive Line Array Loudspeaker
The JBL VRX908LA is a compact, trapezoidal passive loudspeaker specifically engineered as a component within the larger VRX line array system. This 8-inch, two-way design is optimized for delivering clear, articulate vocal reproduction and detailed mid-high frequency content in permanent installation and portable sound reinforcement applications. Its primary role is often as a front fill, balcony delay, or side fill element, or as part of a larger array where its focused dispersion complements larger array modules. The speaker integrates a high-performance 8-inch low-frequency driver with a precision 1-inch exit compression driver, managed by a passive crossover network that ensures seamless acoustic integration and phase coherence between the transducers for a smooth, natural sound.
Acoustically, the VRX908LA leverages Constant Curvature Array technology when used in multiples, allowing clusters of cabinets to behave predictably as a single, coherent source with a consistent vertical coverage pattern. This design enables precise control over the audience coverage area, minimizing unwanted reflections and ensuring even sound distribution. The proprietary Differential Drive technology in the low-frequency driver enhances power handling and reduces distortion, while the waveguide-loaded high-frequency driver provides controlled horizontal dispersion. The result is a speaker capable of high output with excellent speech intelligibility and musical clarity, suitable for demanding environments like theaters, houses of worship, conference centers, and live music venues.
Physically, the cabinet is constructed from durable, tour-grade plywood with a textured polyurethane finish to withstand the demands of both touring and fixed installation. It features integrated array rigging hardware that allows for quick and secure coupling with other VRX908LA cabinets or compatible VRX models to form flown arrays or ground-stacked columns. The cabinet includes multiple M10 threaded rigging points for standard mounting accessories. Input is handled via dual Neutrik SpeakON NL4 connectors, facilitating parallel wiring in multi-cabinet arrays. As a passive system, it requires external amplification matched to its power specifications, offering system designers flexibility in tailoring the amplification and system processing to the specific needs of the application.
