Telos Systems The Link Intercom-To-Telephone Interface

$39.99

The Telos "The Link" Intercom-To-Telephone Interface is a specialized communication solution that seamlessly bridges professional two-wire or four-wire intercom systems with standard analog telephone lines (POTS). It employs advanced digital signal processing (DSP) to deliver high-quality, reliable audio without feedback or distortion, problems common with simpler analog phone patches. The device acts as a sophisticated hybrid, converting the bi-directional audio of a two-wire line into separate send and receive signals (four-wire conversion), making it possible to insert gain and other processing in the speech path for clear, natural conversation.

About the Telos Systems The Link Intercom-To-Telephone Interface

The Telos Systems The Link is a specialized professional audio interface designed to bridge a broadcast or production intercom system with the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Its primary function is to allow clear, two-way communication between participants on a studio intercom (such as a party-line or matrix system) and callers on standard telephone lines. This enables remote guests, reporters, or experts to participate in live radio talk shows, television broadcasts, podcast recordings, and production meetings as if they were in the studio, hearing program audio and director cues while being heard by the on-air talent and production staff. The device solves the technical challenge of connecting the balanced, low-impedance audio of professional intercom systems with the unbalanced, high-impedance, bandwidth-limited characteristics of a telephone line, providing level matching, hybrid balancing for echo cancellation, and often sophisticated processing to improve voice clarity.

The unit typically features multiple telephone line interfaces (FXO ports to connect to phone lines or an FXS port to connect to an analog telephone) and balanced audio inputs and outputs for connection to the intercom system's main bus or a dedicated channel. Advanced models incorporate digital signal processing (DSP) to manage the connection. This includes a high-performance hybrid circuit to separate the incoming and outgoing audio paths, preventing echo and feedback; dynamic processing like limiting and noise gating to maintain consistent levels; and equalization to compensate for the telephone band's limited frequency response, making voices sound more natural and present. Some versions may also provide a "mix-minus" output, sending a feed of the studio program to the caller but minus their own voice to prevent echo.

Housed in a rack-mountable chassis, The Link is built for reliability in 24/7 broadcast environments. Control is often provided through front-panel buttons and displays or via network/software for remote configuration. It is an indispensable tool for live call-in shows, remote interviews, and any production that integrates outside telephone contributors. By providing a clean, stable, and intelligible connection between the telephone network and the professional intercom ecosystem, Telos Systems The Link ensures that remote participants can interact seamlessly with the production team, enhancing the interactivity and production value of live broadcasts.
