About the Sennheiser MAS 133 Microphone Control Box [B-Stock]

The Sennheiser MAS 133 is a professional microphone control box designed to provide remote control and distribution for Sennheiser's modular microphone systems, such as the MKH 8000 series shotgun and interference tube microphones. This unit serves as the central interface between the microphone capsule and the rest of the audio system, offering precise control over key parameters without needing to access the microphone itself physically. Typically mounted on a camera, sound cart, or within a studio rack, the MAS 133 allows the sound recordist to remotely adjust the microphone's polar pattern (on compatible models), apply a low-cut filter, engage phantom power, and control output level. This functionality is crucial in film, broadcast, and location sound recording, where the microphone may be positioned on a boom pole at a distance, and quick adjustments are needed to adapt to changing acoustic conditions or dialogue.

Constructed with the durability required for field production, the MAS 133 features a robust metal housing with clear, tactile controls and status LEDs. It connects to the microphone via a specialized multi-pin cable that carries power, audio, and control signals. The box provides both balanced XLR output and a separate TA3 or similar connector for connecting to portable recorders or wireless transmitters. Its ability to switch polar patterns (e.g., from cardioid to supercardioid to hypercardioid on an MKH 8000) remotely is a significant creative tool, allowing the recordist to tailor the microphone's directionality and rejection characteristics on the fly to best suit the scene, actor positioning, and background noise environment.

The MAS 133 simplifies complex audio setups by consolidating control into a single, accessible unit. It ensures that the high-quality signal from Sennheiser's premium microphones is delivered cleanly and can be optimized in real-time. For sound mixers and recordists working with modular Sennheiser systems, this control box is an indispensable part of the signal chain, enhancing workflow efficiency and providing the flexibility needed to achieve pristine audio capture in dynamic production environments.
