About the Allen & Heath DLive CDM48 C-Class MixRack
The Allen & Heath dLive CDM48 is a premium C-Class MixRack serving as the core processing and I/O engine for the expansive dLive digital mixing ecosystem. It represents a modular, rack-mountable "brain" that houses the system's powerful 64-bit Floating Point SHARC processors and provides substantial physical connectivity, designed to be placed on or near the stage while being controlled remotely by a surface like the S7000 or S5000. The CDM48 offers 48 mic/line inputs and 24 outputs on its local I/O panel, featuring Allen & Heath's renowned low-noise, high-headroom preamplifiers with individual phantom power switching. This local capacity is just the starting point, as the system's true scalability is unlocked through its extensive digital networking options, allowing the total channel count to expand dramatically to meet the demands of the largest live productions.
The MixRack's architecture is built for flexibility and redundancy. It includes multiple high-speed audio network ports, most notably Allen & Heath's proprietary gigabit AES50 ports (compatible with the Milan protocol) and optional card slots for additional protocols like Dante, MADI, or Waves SoundGrid. This enables seamless integration of digital stage boxes, such as the DX series, to add hundreds more inputs and outputs across a single Cat5e/6 cable run. The system supports a massive internal mixing capacity of up to 128 fully processed input channels and 64 mix buses at a 96kHz sampling rate, with near-zero latency. Dual power supplies are standard, providing full redundancy to ensure uninterrupted operation during critical performances, and the entire unit is built into a robust 14U rack-mountable chassis designed for the rigors of touring.
Control and configuration are highly sophisticated. The CDM48 is paired with one or two dLive control surfaces via redundant Optocore fiber loops, ensuring an ultra-reliable, low-latency control link. All parameters, from preamp gain to complex FX rack settings, can be adjusted remotely from the surface or via iPad using the dLive Director app. The MixRack also includes a dedicated 1U Interface Module (IF-DL) for connecting legacy analog outboard gear and providing additional communications ports. By centralizing processing power and I/O in a rugged, redundant, and massively scalable rack unit, the dLive CDM48 MixRack provides the foundational performance and reliability required by top-tier front-of-house and monitor engineers for world-class tours, broadcast events, and major fixed installations.
