About the Meyer Sound ULTRA-X40 Wide Coverage Loudspeaker

The Meyer ULTRA-X40 brings the technology breakthroughs of Meyer Sound's flagship line arrays into a compact, self-powered point source loudspeaker. A concentric configuration pairs dual 8-inch neodymium cone woofers with a single 3-inch diaphragm compression driver for exceptional fidelity with high power and low distortion. Its rotatable 110° x 50° Constant-Q horn supplies wide, uniform coverage that stays consistent in a horizontal or vertical orientation, with directional control down to 400 Hz.

Power comes from a new 3-channel Class D amplifier that produces 1950W of total peak output power and draws only about 1.3A at 230V AC. Onboard processing handles the crossover, phase and frequency response correction, and driver protection, while IntelligentAC removes the need for an external power conditioner. Setup stays simple with no amp rack or long cable runs, and 11 M8 rigging points plus a 35mm pole mount receptacle open up a wide variety of mounting options. Optional RMS remote monitoring lets you watch loudspeaker parameters from a Windows or Mac computer.

Every ULTRA-X40 from AVGear is inspected, tested, and graded for function and cosmetics, so you know the condition before you buy.

FAQs about Meyer Sound ULTRA-X40 Wide Coverage Loudspeaker

What is M-noise, and why does Meyer use it instead of pink noise for SPL ratings?

M-noise is a music-based test signal Meyer Sound created to measure real-world loudspeaker output. Unlike pink noise, its peak level changes across the frequency band the way music does, so the rating reflects performance with actual program material. Meyer rates the ULTRA-X40 at 132.5 dB linear peak SPL using M-noise.

Does the ULTRA-X40 need an external processor like Galileo GALAXY?

No. The ULTRA-X40 has built-in DSP that handles the crossover, correction filters, and driver protection, so a single speaker runs without any external processor. For larger multi-speaker systems, Meyer's Galileo GALAXY platform can add matrix routing and alignment, but it is optional.

Are mounting brackets included with the ULTRA-X40, or sold separately?

The cabinet has 11 built-in M8 rigging points and a 35mm pole mount receptacle, but brackets and yokes are sold separately. Options include the MUB-X40 U-bracket, the MYA-X40 yoke, an adjustable pole kit, and cluster plates for grouping multiple cabinets.

Does the ULTRA-X40 have an onboard volume control?

No. The ULTRA-X40 does not have a volume knob on the cabinet. You set the level at the mixer or processor feeding its XLR input, which keeps gain staging consistent across multiple speakers.

Is the ULTRA-X40 weather resistant for outdoor use?

A weather-protected version is available as a factory option for covered outdoor use, along with custom color finishes. The optional 5-pin XLR connector for RMS monitoring is not offered on weather-protected models. Standard cabinets are built for indoor and touring use.

Can you pole-mount the ULTRA-X40 on top of a subwoofer?

Yes. The 750-LFC subwoofer includes an internal pole mount cup, so you can pole-mount an ULTRA-X40 directly on top of it for a compact ground-stacked system. This is a common setup for portable applications where floor space is limited.

What subwoofer pairs best with the Meyer ULTRA-X40?

The 750-LFC low-frequency control element is the natural match for the ULTRA-X40. It extends the system's response down to 36 Hz and is tuned to pair with the ULTRA-X40 in ground-stacked or pole-mounted setups without extra processing. For tighter spaces, the compact USW-112P is a lighter option.

How much does the ULTRA-X40 weigh, and how big is it?

The ULTRA-X40 weighs about 52 pounds (under 25 kg) and measures roughly 22.3 in high by 12.5 in wide by 14 in deep. It is more than 20 pounds lighter than the UPA-1P it replaced, so one person of average strength can lift it onto a stand.

Can the ULTRA-X40 be used as a floor monitor?

No. The ULTRA-X40 is not designed for use as a stage floor monitor. It is built for front-of-house, front-fill, and installed coverage. It mounts on a pole, yoke, U-bracket, or flown rigging instead.
