Cisco RPS 675 Redundant Power System

$0.00

The Cisco Redundant Power System 675 (RPS 675) is designed to increase availability in a converged data, voice, and video network. The system delivers superior internal power supply redundancy and resiliency at an affordable price. The Cisco RPS 675 supports internal power supply redundancy for up to six Cisco networking devices and features an innovative power architecture that provides customers with an immediate failover capability. The Cisco RPS 675 incorporates a quick failover feature, ensuring customers that the connected device will not reboot in the event of an internal power supply failure. For example, if an internal power supply fails on one of the six connected devices, the Cisco RPS 675 automatically senses the failure and delivers uninterrupted power to that device. When a failure is detected, the Cisco RPS 675 sends status information showing that the other connected devices will not be supported until the failed device is restored or replaced.

This status information can be monitored through CiscoWorks 2000 and the Cisco Cluster Management Suite (CMS) Software that provides Web-based network management. To achieve one-to-one redundancy, each device must be connected to a separate Cisco RPS 675. The Cisco RPS 675 can be combined with the Cisco Catalyst 3550-24 PWR desktop switch, featuring inline power and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system, to establish all of the elements of the Cisco Centralized Power Provisioning System. This combination provides a resilient, highly available converged network.

About the Cisco RPS 675 Redundant Power System

The Cisco RPS 675 is a redundant power system designed to provide backup power protection for select Cisco switches, routers, and other networking devices that support an external redundant power supply (RPS) connector. This unit functions as an external, shared power backup, delivering uninterrupted power to connected devices in the event of an internal power supply failure or an AC power interruption. It can simultaneously support and monitor multiple compatible devices, allowing for cost-effective power redundancy across a network infrastructure without the need for dual internal power supplies in every individual unit. The RPS 675 is typically deployed in wiring closets and small server rooms where network uptime is critical and power stability may be a concern.

The system features multiple output ports that connect to devices via special RPS cables, and it includes status LEDs for monitoring the health of both the RPS unit itself and each connected device. When it detects a power failure on a primary internal supply, it automatically switches to provide power within milliseconds, preventing a network outage. The RPS 675 itself is powered by a standard AC input and includes its own internal power supply and fan for cooling. Its design prioritizes reliability and simplicity, providing a straightforward solution for adding power redundancy to single-power-supply Cisco devices in small to medium business and enterprise branch office environments.

As a component of a resilient network design, the Cisco RPS 675 enhances system availability by guarding against a common point of failure. It offers a practical and scalable approach to power backup, ensuring that critical network services remain operational during power supply issues, thereby supporting business continuity and reducing downtime.
