About the Blackmagic Design BMD-DV/RFL/AUDIF Fairlight Audio Interface

The Blackmagic Design Fairlight Audio Interface is a high-performance external audio interface designed to integrate seamlessly with Fairlight audio systems and DaVinci Resolve, providing professional-grade analog and digital audio connectivity for post-production, music production, and broadcast audio workflows. It serves as the primary bridge between the Fairlight audio engine running on a computer and the outside world of microphones, speakers, mixing consoles, and other audio gear. The interface is engineered to deliver ultra-low latency, high-resolution audio conversion, and stable operation, which are essential for critical listening, recording, and mixing tasks. It typically features a robust metal chassis and connects to the host computer via Thunderbolt or USB, offering a portable yet professional solution for studio and mobile setups.

The interface provides a comprehensive set of inputs and outputs to accommodate a wide range of professional audio scenarios. This includes multiple microphone preamps with phantom power for connecting studio microphones, line-level inputs for instruments or external processors, and balanced line outputs for connecting studio monitors and subwoofers. Digital I/O, such as ADAT optical and AES/EBU, is often included to expand the channel count by connecting to external preamp racks or to interface with other digital audio equipment. High-quality digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters ensure pristine audio fidelity, capturing the full detail and dynamic range of recordings and providing accurate monitoring for mixing and mastering.

Deep integration with the Fairlight audio system within DaVinci Resolve is a key advantage. The interface can be automatically recognized and configured, with hardware controls often mapping directly to software functions. This tight integration streamlines the workflow for editors and mixers working on film, television, or music projects entirely within the DaVinci Resolve ecosystem. By offering a dedicated, high-quality audio interface built to Fairlight's professional standards, Blackmagic Design provides a cohesive and reliable audio solution that complements its video products, enabling content creators to achieve broadcast-quality sound with the same software they use for picture editing and color grading.
