About the Extron TP 15HA A and TP T 15HD AV Twisted Pair Transmitter for RGBHV and Audio
The Extron TP 15HA A and TP T 15HD are a matched pair of twisted pair transmitter and receiver units designed for the long-distance transmission of high-resolution computer video (RGBHV) and audio signals over standard CATx (Category 5e/6/6a) cabling. This system provides a cost-effective and reliable alternative to traditional, bulky coaxial video cables, which are expensive, difficult to install over long runs, and limited in distance. The transmitter (TP T 15HD) accepts analog RGBHV video signals along with stereo audio inputs, converts them into a balanced format optimized for twisted pair cable, and sends them down a single CATx cable. The companion receiver (TP 15HA A) at the far end converts the balanced signal back into standard RGBHV and audio outputs, faithfully reconstructing the source signal for display on a monitor or projector.
A key feature of this system is its support for very high resolutions, extending up to UXGA (1600x1200) and 1080p, with a bandwidth of 350 MHz, ensuring sharp, detailed image quality suitable for detailed graphics and high-definition content. The balanced transmission technology employed provides excellent common-mode noise rejection, which is critical for maintaining signal integrity over long distances in electrically noisy environments typical of commercial installations. The system is designed to support cable runs significantly longer than the maximum reliable distance for standard VGA cables—often up to 300 meters (approximately 1000 feet) depending on resolution and cable quality—making it ideal for large venues like lecture halls, corporate campuses, and digital signage networks where sources and displays are far apart.
The units are housed in compact, sturdy metal enclosures suitable for desktop use or discreet installation. The transmitter typically features BNC connectors for the five-wire RGBHV video input and RCA or terminal block connectors for audio, while the receiver provides matching BNC and audio output connectors. Both units are powered via external power supplies. This Extron TP system simplifies infrastructure by allowing installers to use ubiquitous, low-cost structured cabling for high-performance video extension, reducing installation time and material costs. It provides a professional, robust solution for integrating computer sources into distributed display systems, ensuring consistent, high-fidelity signal delivery where it is needed most.
