The OpenGear Converter SDI to Analog Module from Blackmagic Design is a component designed for use in the modular OpenGear system. OpenGear is essentially an open-standards chassis that can be mounted in a rack for conversion and processing work. The chassis accepts different modules to enhance its functionality, allowing the solution to be expanded or scaled at will.

This module is designed to convert SDI to analog HD/SD component, NTSC and PAL video, and balanced AES/EBU and analog audio output. It is well suited for use with Betacam SP, VHS, set-top boxes, gaming consoles, and HDV cameras, among other possible equipment and applications. It also features a built-in, hardware down-converter to connect HD-SDI video to SD equipment.

The Blackmagic Design OpenGear SDI to Analog Converter is a professional rackmount signal processor designed for broadcast facilities and high-end AV installations where space, density, and reliability are paramount. Housed in a standardized OpenGear frame, it provides a high-density solution for converting digital SDI video signals to analog composite video (CVBS) and stereo analog audio, allowing modern digital broadcast equipment to interface with legacy analog monitors, distribution systems, archival recorders, and other analog infrastructure. This converter is engineered for 24/7 operation, featuring redundant power from the OpenGear frame and comprehensive monitoring and control capabilities through the frame's dashboard system.

Each converter card accepts one SDI input and outputs one composite video signal alongside two channels of analog audio (left and right) on standard RCA connectors. It automatically detects the incoming SDI standard (HD-SDI or SD-SDI) and converts the video to the corresponding analog standard (NTSC or PAL). The audio is de-embedded from the SDI stream and output as line-level analog signals. The card's front panel includes status LEDs for power and signal presence, and its configuration can be managed remotely via the OpenGear frame's dashboard software, enabling centralized control of an entire rack of converters.
