The BrightSign XD230 is a professional-grade digital signage media player that delivers PC-level performance with the reliability and ease-of-use of a solid-state appliance. As part of the XD series launch in late 2012, this networked player introduced the ability to decode and play two HD-quality (1080p or 720p) video streams simultaneously at full 1080p60 resolution, offering exceptional multimedia capabilities for demanding commercial applications including retail environments, corporate lobbies, museums, restaurants, and digital out-of-home networks. The XD230 supports HTML5 content creation, allowing designers to use familiar web development tools to create engaging, interactive presentations with enhanced touch-screen interactivity and swipe/gesture control capabilities.

Engineered for maximum deployment flexibility, the XD230 features comprehensive connectivity including HDMI output, 10/100 Ethernet with on-board magnetics and termination, audio line out via 3.5mm stereo jack, and a DE-9 serial port for RS-232 communication and external device control. The player includes both SDHC/SDXC and internal microSD card slots for content storage with no inherent limit on storage capacity, and both slots are capable of transferring a 25 Mbit/sec video stream simultaneously with 5.1 AC3 audio pass-through and three stereo PCM tracks. Content can be played from local, networked, or streaming sources.

The XD230 operates on 12V DC at 3A using a keyed, locking 4-pin power connector. The player draws approximately 1A when playing an HD MPEG2 source file, with an additional 2A available for powering peripherals through its USB, Ethernet, GPIO, HDMI, and IR ports. The player is designed to operate between 0°C and 40°C at 90% maximum relative humidity, non-condensing. An included AC adapter provides reliable power, while the built-in wall mounting brackets and compact 1.67-inch height allow simple, unobtrusive installation in virtually any environment.
