Royer R-10 Ribbon Microphone

$695.00

The Royer R-10 delivers a beautifully balanced sound field with a flat frequency response and an impressive maximum SPL of 160dB at 1kHz, so you can close-mic loud sources without fear of overload. The R-10 is the choice for electric and acoustic guitars, brass, strings, drums, cymbals, piano, vocals, and more. Its figure-8 polar pattern also captures ambience beautifully, which makes it excellent for room miking. The Royer R-10 is a value-packed, state-of-the-art ribbon microphone that deserves a place in your mic locker.

About the Royer R-10 Ribbon Microphone

The Royer R-10 is a passive mono ribbon microphone designed and hand-built at Royer Labs' Burbank, California factory, offering the legendary Royer ribbon sound at an accessible price point for both studio and live stage applications. The microphone features a 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon element—the same as found in the flagship R-121—formed using Royer's patented direct-corrugation process. A custom David Royer-designed impedance-matching transformer and neodymium grade 52 rare-earth magnets create a powerful magnetic field that increases sensitivity while reducing stray magnetic radiation. The ribbon transducer is wired for humbucking to reject electromagnetically induced noise.

The R-10 incorporates a multi-layer protective windscreen system and an internally shock-mounted ribbon transducer, providing superior protection from air blasts, plosives, and physical shocks while reducing proximity effect for close-miking applications. The microphone exhibits a flat frequency response of 30Hz to 15kHz (±3dB) with no high-frequency peaks, ringing, or phase shifts, and features Royer's patented offset-ribbon technology which positions the ribbon element toward the front of the transducer. This design allows for higher SPL handling on the front (logo) side and a brighter response when recording lower SPL sources on the back side at closer distances. The R-10's compact dimensions (149mm length, 35mm diameter) and low-profile mounting system enable flexible placement in tight spaces with minimal intrusion.
