The SC307 covers 40 Hz to 21 kHz, measured at -3 dB from 1 meter. The extended low end comes from running two 6.5-inch woofers together instead of one, and maximum output reaches 114 dB SPL at 1 meter.

Most studios do not. Because the SC307 already reaches 40 Hz, it covers the range needed for the majority of mixing and mastering work. A subwoofer becomes worth considering for bass-heavy genres, film work below 40 Hz, or larger rooms where you want extra low-frequency headroom.

It works as both. On a desk at roughly one meter, the SC307 performs as a nearfield monitor, and the desk filter compensates for reflections off the work surface. In a treated room with more distance to the listening position, the same speaker functions as a midfield main speaker.

An air motion transformer, or AMT, uses a lightweight hand-folded diaphragm coated with aluminum instead of a rigid dome. The folds squeeze air in and out at about a 4:1 ratio compared to the 1:1 ratio of a dome tweeter, which produces more output for less diaphragm motion and lowers distortion in the high-frequency range.

The SC307 has three filters, all adjusted in 0.5 dB steps from the SMART knob. The high shelf raises or lowers content above 3 kHz from -5 dB to +3 dB. The low shelf does the same below 300 Hz. The desk filter cuts up to -5 dB at 160 Hz for console reflections or boosts up to +3 dB at 80 Hz for extra punch.

The LED ring displays volume and filter values. Four display modes are available: bright ring, bright point, dim ring, and dim point. In ring modes, every LED up to the selected volume level lights; in point modes, only the LED at the selected volume level lights. Brightness is adjustable for dark control rooms.

The SC307 accepts a balanced XLR input and an unbalanced RCA input, both at 10 kOhm impedance. Use XLR for interfaces, monitor controllers, and other professional gear at higher output levels, and RCA for consumer sources. Amplification is built in, so no external power amp is needed.

Place both speakers and your listening position at the points of an equilateral triangle, with the tweeters at ear height and each monitor angled toward you. Set the rear DIP switch so the bass driver of each speaker sits on the outside of the pair, which keeps the stereo image symmetrical and stabilizes the sweet spot.
