Clear-Com IF4B 4-Wire Interface

$0.00

The IF4-B modular 4-wire interface connects camera intercoms, two-way radios, fiber optics, and other 4-wire devices to a standard Clear-Com intercom line. The 1-RU chassis holds up to four individual interface modules, each with its own 4-wire terminal block and XLR-3M connector to interface with Clear-Com.

Featuring broadcast-quality circuitry, the unit matches industry-standard 600-ohm transmit/receive lines (at normal levels) to Clear-Com line level. The IF4-B accepts balanced or unbalanced 4-wire input and is transformer isolated.

It is powered by the Clear-Com intercom line using standard two-conductor shielded mic cable.

About the Clear-Com IF4B 4-Wire Interface

The Clear-Com IF4B is a professional interface unit designed to connect a Clear-Com 2-wire partyline intercom system to external 4-wire audio equipment, such as broadcast consoles, telephone hybrid systems, recording devices, or other intercom matrices. This device serves as a crucial bridge, translating the balanced, low-impedance audio of the partyline into the unbalanced, line-level signals used in 4-wire circuits (separate send and receive paths), and vice versa. It enables clear, two-way communication between the production crew on the intercom and external operators, such as a broadcast audio engineer in a separate control room, an on-air talent via a telephone line, or a commentator in an isolated booth.

The interface is typically housed in a compact, rack-mountable unit and provides independent level controls for both the send (from the intercom to the 4-wire device) and receive (from the 4-wire device to the intercom) paths. This allows precise gain staging to prevent distortion and ensure optimal audio levels on both sides of the connection. Key professional features include ground lift switches to break ground loops that cause hum, and microphone simulators or phantom power options to properly interface with broadcast mixers expecting a microphone-level signal. The unit manages the conversion between the intercom's "always-live" communication style and the separate input/output nature of a 4-wire link, maintaining audio clarity and preventing feedback.

The IF4B uses standard connectors, with XLRs for the 4-wire side and a terminal block or XLRs for connection to the 2-wire partyline. Its robust design ensures reliable performance in the demanding environments of broadcast facilities, live event production, and theater sound departments. By providing this flexible and clean interface, the IF4B expands the utility of a partyline system, allowing it to integrate seamlessly with a wider range of professional audio and communication infrastructure. This capability is essential for complex productions that require interaction between the stage or studio floor management and various technical or editorial departments operating on different audio systems.
