THE CLEAR-COM CONCEPT
Clear-Com is a closed-circuit intercom system that consistently provides high-clarity communication in high-noise and low-noise environments. A basic system consists of a single- or multi-channel power supply or main station connected to various single- or multi-channel remote stations, such as beltpacks and loudspeaker stations. Clear-Com manufactures a wide variety of both portable and fixed-installation units. All are compatible with each other. Clear-Com intercom systems can also interface with other communication systems and devices.

About the Clear-Com PIC-4704 Encore IFB Central Controller

The Clear-Com PIC-4704 is a centralized IFB (Interruptible Foldback) controller designed for the Encore analog party-line system, providing comprehensive management of program audio and producer communications for multiple on-air talents. This four-channel unit serves as the core hub in a broadcast environment, allowing producers and directors to create individualized ear mixes for up to four separate talent positions, such as news anchors, field reporters, or sports commentators. Each channel can mix multiple audio sources—typically the main program feed, a dedicated producer talkback microphone, and auxiliary audio cues—into a personalized feed. The controller's defining function is the interrupt capability, which enables a producer to momentarily override the program audio on any channel with live voice instructions, ensuring critical cues are delivered clearly and privately without going to air.

The unit is designed for intuitive operation under the fast-paced conditions of live television and radio. Its front panel features dedicated controls for each of the four channels, including input level adjustments, master output level, and a prominent interrupt button. Status LEDs provide clear visual confirmation of signal presence and interrupt activation. The PIC-4704 integrates seamlessly into the Encore analog infrastructure, connecting to audio consoles for source material and to the Encore party-line for distributing the IFB feeds to talent beltpacks or receivers. Its robust, rack-mountable metal chassis is built for reliability in 24/7 broadcast operations, with internal power supplies designed for continuous use.

By centralizing control of multiple IFB lines, the PIC-4704 streamlines the producer's workflow, reducing clutter and complexity in the control room. It ensures that communication with talent is immediate, clear, and confidential, which is fundamental for executing seamless live broadcasts. The controller's straightforward analog design offers operational simplicity and proven reliability, making it a trusted component in broadcast facilities worldwide for managing the vital link between the production team and on-air personalities.
