About the Telex RTS Systems Model 862 Series 800 Intercom System

The Telex RTS Model 862 is a compact, fully integrated matrix intercom system from the renowned Series 800, designed to serve as a central communication hub for small to medium-scale professional applications. It represents a complete, self-contained solution that incorporates the matrix core, power supply, and control interface within a single 4U rack-mountable chassis, eliminating the need for separate frames and processors. Engineered for environments requiring reliable, high-quality party-line communication, such as mobile broadcast trucks, small-to-mid-sized television studios, performing arts centers, and corporate production facilities, the system provides a scalable foundation. It offers a base capacity that can be expanded with additional card modules to grow with the user's needs, supporting a mix of digital and analog party lines, 4-wire interfaces, and telephone hybrids.

At the heart of the Model 862 is its digital matrix switch, which routes all audio and control signals with high fidelity and negligible latency. The system is controlled via an integrated keypad and alphanumeric display or through connected PC software, allowing for straightforward configuration of crosspoint assignments, channel labels, and GPIO functions. It supports a wide variety of user stations, from simple single-channel beltpacks to sophisticated programmable master stations, all communicating over a single twisted-pair digital bus that simplifies cabling infrastructure. Audio performance is characterized by exceptional clarity and dynamic range, with features like automatic gain control, adjustable levels per port, and superior noise rejection ensuring intelligible communication even in acoustically challenging environments.

The system is designed for robustness and ease of maintenance, with modular card slots for expansion and hot-swappable power supplies in redundant configurations for mission-critical applications. Its architecture allows for seamless integration with other RTS systems and external audio sources via 4-wire interfaces, making it a versatile nerve center for complex audio routing beyond simple intercom. The Telex RTS Model 862 embodies a professional-grade balance of power, scalability, and reliability, providing a future-proof communication backbone that is both immediately functional and capable of sophisticated expansion to meet evolving production demands.
