About the Clear-Com RS-502 2-Channel Beltpack Intercom Station

The Clear-Com RS-502 is a durable, two-channel beltpack intercom station widely utilized in professional audio-visual environments such as television studios, live event production, and theatrical stages. It is designed to provide reliable, hands-free communication between crew members. Unlike some simpler models, the RS-502 is explicitly a dual-channel unit, allowing the user to select which of the two channels they wish to transmit or listen to, or to monitor both simultaneously. This flexibility makes it ideal for complex productions that require coordination across separate teams (e.g., lighting on channel A, stage management on channel B).

Built to withstand the rigors of professional use, the chassis is made from high-impact glass-filled nylon. The ergonomic design features rounded edges to prevent snagging on clothing or equipment, and the controls are recessed to guard against accidental adjustments during fast-paced operations. The unit is designed to be powered entirely from the intercom line, eliminating the need for bulky batteries or AC adapters on each beltpack and simplifying system setup and power management.

Key operational features include dedicated controls for volume and channel selection, along with a "Call" signal button. This call feature illuminates a high-visibility LED on the beltpack of the intended recipient and can also send an audible signal through their headset, providing a silent or audible alert system crucial for noise-sensitive environments like broadcast studios. The RS-502 offers both push-to-talk and latching talk modes, providing the necessary operational flexibility for various production scenarios.
