Sennheiser e 614 Supercardioid Condenser Microphone

$219.00

Super-cardioid electret condenser microphone for demanding instrument recordings, and performances that produce extended frequencies, high SPL handling and transient response. For woodwind, strings, and home recording.

The e 614 is a super-cardioid condenser microphone, designed for demanding instrument recordings and performances that require extended frequency response, high SPL handling, fast transient response and compact size. While drumset overhead miking was the first design priority, the e614 also works exceptionally well on percussion setups as well, fitting comfortably into tight setups. The e 614 can handle high SPLs and features medium sensitivity, which ensures reduced bleed from other instruments on stage. Because of its excellent acoustic properties, this mic is also ideal for home recording.

About the Sennheiser e 614 Supercardioid Condenser Microphone

The Sennheiser e 614 is a compact and versatile supercardioid condenser microphone designed for live sound reinforcement and studio recording of acoustic instruments and drum overheads. Its supercardioid polar pattern provides a tighter, more focused pickup area in front of the capsule compared to a standard cardioid, offering improved isolation from other sound sources on stage and greater resistance to feedback. This makes it particularly well-suited for miking drum kits, brass sections, stringed instruments, and percussion where precise placement and rejection of ambient noise are crucial. The microphone features a smooth, tailored frequency response that captures the natural character of instruments with clarity and detail.

As a condenser microphone, the e 614 requires phantom power (typically 48V) supplied from the mixing console or an external power supply. It is engineered with a robust, die-cast zinc housing that can withstand the physical demands of live use, including placement close to high-sound-pressure-level sources like snare drums and guitar amplifiers. The microphone's low self-noise and high maximum SPL handling ensure clean, undistorted capture even of loud transients. Its sleek, low-profile design helps minimize visual distraction on stage or in the studio.

Offering professional Sennheiser quality at an accessible price point, the e 614 is a reliable workhorse for musicians, sound engineers, and project studios. It delivers a transparent and articulate sound that faithfully reproduces the source, making it a popular choice for engineers seeking a dependable, all-purpose instrument microphone that performs consistently in a wide variety of challenging acoustic environments.
