About the Shure U845 UHF Antenna Distribution System
The Shure U845 is a professional-grade antenna distribution system designed to provide clean, amplified signal distribution to multiple wireless receivers in large-scale or high-density UHF wireless microphone and in-ear monitoring installations. Its primary function is to take the signal from one or two main remote antennas and distribute it to up to four wireless receivers, while simultaneously providing power to active antennas and compensating for cable loss. This system is essential for maintaining signal integrity and maximizing the performance and reliability of wireless audio systems in environments like concert venues, theaters, broadcast studios, and houses of worship where multiple wireless channels are used simultaneously.
The unit features two independent antenna inputs, each with its own low-noise preamplifier and adjustable gain control (typically 0-20 dB). This allows technicians to optimize the signal level from remote antennas, ensuring a strong, clean RF signal reaches each connected receiver without overloading their front ends. The amplified signals are then passively split and sent to four outputs. A key feature is the integrated DC power supply, which provides phantom power (9-15 VDC) to the connected active antennas via the same coaxial cables that carry the RF signal, eliminating the need for separate power supplies at each antenna location and simplifying the overall system cabling.
Constructed in a durable 1U rack-mount chassis, the U845 is built for reliability in both permanent installations and touring applications. By using a centralized antenna distribution system, it reduces the number of antennas needed, minimizes cable runs, and ensures all receivers benefit from optimal antenna placement and signal strength. This results in a more stable RF environment with improved range, reduced susceptibility to dropouts, and easier system management. For system integrators and RF engineers, the U845 is a fundamental tool for building robust, professional wireless audio infrastructure.
