Yamaha SPX-900 Professional Multi-Effect Processor

$0.00 -

The SPX900 is a highly sophisticated digital reverberation and effects system which offers 50 preset effect programs including accurate simulations of natural reverberation and early-reflections, delay and echo effects, gated effects, modulation effects, a versatile compressor, Aural Exciter®, multiple effects which function as several SPX900 units in one, freeze (sampling) programs and others. With a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz, it delivers full, flat frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz for exceptionally clean, “transparent” effect sound. The preset effect programs can be edited, re-titled, and stored in any of 49 RAM user memory locations. Individual two-band parametric EQ and dynamic filter parameters are provided for each effect program for precise tonal tailoring.

About the Yamaha SPX-900 Professional Multi-Effect Processor

The Yamaha SPX-900 is a professional digital multi-effect processor that has earned a reputation as a classic, industry-standard unit for live sound and studio applications. Part of the renowned SPX series, it provides a versatile and reliable suite of high-quality audio effects in a single rack space. The unit operates with 18-bit linear A/D and D/A converters and 16-bit internal processing, delivering the clean, transparent sound that made the series famous. It offers a selection of 30 distinct effect programs, including lush reverbs, precise delays, sophisticated modulation effects like chorus and flanging, and dynamic processors such as compression and gating. Many programs are multi-effects that combine several algorithms, allowing for complex, layered sound design from a compact and straightforward device.

The front panel of the SPX-900 is designed for immediate, intuitive operation, featuring a large LED display and dedicated buttons for program selection, parameter editing, and system configuration. Engineers value its tactile controls for quick adjustments during live performances. The unit provides 99 memory locations for storing user-edited programs, ensuring that favorite effect settings can be recalled instantly. Its robust construction, with a solid metal chassis, ensures durability for both touring and fixed installation use. The rear panel hosts balanced XLR and unbalanced quarter-inch TRS input and output connectors, offering flexible connectivity for integration into any professional audio chain.

While later models introduced more processing power and higher bit depths, the SPX-900 remains highly sought after for its specific sonic character, particularly its distinctive reverb and delay tails, which have been used on countless recordings and live mixes. Its straightforward architecture, reliable performance, and classic Yamaha effects algorithms make it a timeless piece of audio gear. For many engineers, the SPX-900 represents a perfect balance of sound quality, ease of use, and rugged dependability, cementing its status as a foundational tool in audio production.
