About the AudioCodes Mediant 1000B Session Border Controller

The AudioCodes Mediant 1000B is a robust, high-density Session Border Controller (SBC) designed to secure, optimize, and interconnect real-time voice, video, and unified communications sessions across IP networks. Functioning as a critical network demarcation point, it sits at the edge of an enterprise or service provider network, managing and securing all SIP trunking connections between the internal IP-PBX system and external service providers or remote sites. Its primary roles include enforcing security policies to prevent malicious attacks like toll fraud and denial-of-service, performing detailed signaling and media protocol normalization to ensure interoperability between diverse vendor equipment, and providing comprehensive call admission control (CAC) to manage bandwidth and prioritize critical traffic. By acting as a strategic firewall for VoIP traffic, the Mediant 1000B enables businesses to safely leverage internet-based telephony services while protecting their internal infrastructure.

Beyond core security, the device excels in ensuring carrier-grade service quality and reliability. It features sophisticated media processing capabilities, including high-definition voice transcoding between various codecs (e.g., G.711, G.729, Opus), DTMF interworking, and robust echo cancellation. These functions are essential for maintaining clear audio quality across different network segments and devices. The SBC also provides advanced session management tools, such as topology hiding, which masks internal network details from external entities, and SIP message manipulation for seamless routing and compliance. Its high-availability design, with options for redundant power supplies and stateful failover between units, ensures the continuity of mission-critical communications, making it suitable for deployments where any downtime translates directly to lost business or productivity.

The Mediant 1000B is built on a powerful, field-proven hardware platform with a significant capacity for concurrent calls and SIP registrations, catering to medium to large enterprises and small service providers. Management is streamlined through intuitive web-based and CLI interfaces, and it supports extensive logging, reporting, and monitoring for troubleshooting and analytics. By consolidating security, interoperability, and quality-of-service functions into a single, scalable appliance, AudioCodes' solution simplifies network architecture, reduces operational costs, and provides the foundational control required to deploy and manage reliable, high-quality, and secure VoIP and UC services with confidence.
