Clear Speech Pickup for Any Installation

Gooseneck microphones mount where you need them and stay where you set them. Bend the neck to the right height, aim the capsule at the speaker, and it holds position through hours of use. Conference tables, podiums, witness stands, pulpits - anywhere speech needs to be captured consistently without a handheld microphone.

AVGear carries gooseneck microphones from Shure, Audio-Technica, DPA, Sennheiser, and other brands AV professionals trust most. Each unit is inspected at our Las Vegas facility by a team with over 40 years of combined pro audio experience. We can help you find the right mic for your application, polar pattern requirements, and mounting setup.

  • Inspected and graded before listing
  • 40+ years of combined installed audio experience

What Is a Gooseneck Microphone?

A gooseneck microphone consists of a miniature microphone capsule mounted on a flexible metal gooseneck shaft. The shaft bends and holds its position, allowing precise adjustment for different speaker heights and angles. Most gooseneck mics mount into a base on a lectern, podium, or conference table, though desktop and floor microphone stand options are also available.

Gooseneck microphones are designed primarily for speech applications. Their directional pickup patterns focus on the speaker while rejecting ambient noise and feedback. The result is clear, intelligible audio in acoustically challenging spaces like courtrooms, government chambers, houses of worship, and conference rooms.

Have Questions?

What brands of gooseneck microphones does AVGear carry?

We stock gooseneck microphones from Shure, Audio-Technica, DPA, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Earthworks, Audix, CAD, and other professional manufacturers. Whether you need a Microflex gooseneck microphone replacement for an existing installation or are outfitting a new conference room, we have options across polar patterns, lengths, and mounting styles.

We also carry lecterns if you're building a complete podium setup. We're always adding new products and devices, so contact our team if you're looking for a specific model.

What polar pattern is best for gooseneck microphones?

The polar pattern determines where a microphone picks up sound and where it rejects it.

  • Cardioid: Heart-shaped pickup focused on the front of the microphone head. Rejects sound from the sides and rear. The most common choice for podiums and lectures.
  • Supercardioid: Narrower front pickup with greater side rejection, plus a small rear lobe. Useful in noisy environments or multi-mic setups.
  • Hypercardioid: Tightest front pickup with maximum off-axis rejection. Best for high-gain situations where feedback control is a priority.
  • Omnidirectional: Picks up sound equally from all directions. Works when multiple speakers share a single mic or natural room ambience is desired.

What length gooseneck do I need?

Common lengths are 6", 12", 18", and 24". Shorter goosenecks (6-12") work well for tabletop conference mics where the speaker is seated close by. Longer goosenecks (18-24") suit podiums and lecterns where the speaker stands and may move around during the presentation. Consider speaker height and typical positioning when selecting length. Flexible gooseneck microphones allow precise positioning once installed.

Do gooseneck microphones require phantom power?

Condenser gooseneck mics require 48V phantom power from a mixer, audio interface, or dedicated power supply. Dynamic gooseneck mics do not require phantom power and can connect directly to most audio systems.

Can I replace the capsule on a gooseneck microphone?

Many professional gooseneck systems, like the Shure Microflex series, feature interchangeable capsules. You can swap between cardioid, super cardioid, and omnidirectional patterns without replacing the entire microphone. This modularity simplifies maintenance and allows you to adjust pickup patterns as needs change.

How do I mount a gooseneck microphone?

Mounting options include flush-mount flanges (through-hole installation), shock mounts, desktop bases, and quick-mount connectors. Flush-mount installations are common for permanent setups in lecterns and conference tables, while desktop bases offer flexibility for temporary placement. Many setups also include shock mounts, which isolate the microphone from vibrations transmitted through the mounting surface.

Do gooseneck microphones need to be plugged in?

Gooseneck microphones connect via XLR cable to a mixer, audio interface, or DSP. Condenser models also require 48V phantom power, which is supplied through the same XLR connection from compatible equipment. Dynamic gooseneck mics don't need phantom power but still require an XLR connection for audio signal.

What's the difference between a gooseneck mic and a boundary mic for conference rooms?

Gooseneck mics position the capsule close to the speaker for focused pickup, making them ideal for podiums and individual speaking positions. Boundary mics sit flat on a table and capture sound from a wider area, better suited for group discussions where multiple people speak from different positions.

Can I connect a gooseneck microphone to a mobile phone or tablet?

Standard gooseneck mics use XLR connections and aren't designed for direct connection to mobile phones or tablets. However, you can use an XLR-to-USB interface or audio adapter to connect a gooseneck mic to mobile devices for recording or conferencing applications.
