About the (2) Xenon XBO Short Arc Display/Optic Lamps

Xenon XBO short arc lamps are high-pressure discharge lamps engineered specifically for professional cinema projection, theatrical follow spots, and precision scientific optics. Instead of utilizing a physical filament, XBO lamps generate extreme brightness by striking a heavy direct current (DC) across two tungsten electrodes sealed inside a quartz glass envelope filled with pressurized pure xenon gas. This arc produces a continuous optical spectrum that flawlessly mimics natural daylight (6000K) with a near-perfect Color Rendering Index, ensuring accurate color reproduction on a massive cinema screen.

Because the internal xenon gas is under massive physical pressure—even when the bulb is turned off and completely cold—these lamps are highly volatile explosion hazards. AV technicians and projectionists must wear heavy leather gauntlets, a ballistic jacket, and a polycarbonate face shield whenever opening the projector's lamphouse. They also require heavy-duty exhaust systems, not only to manage the intense operating heat but to safely vent the toxic ozone gas generated by the bulb's intense ultraviolet (UV) output.
