The Canon EOS C70 is a groundbreaking compact cinema camera that represents the fusion of Canon's Cinema EOS system with the EOS R mirrorless platform. As the first Cinema EOS camera to feature an RF mount, the C70 leverages the short flange back of the RF system to achieve a remarkably compact and lightweight body that weighs approximately 1,190 grams (2.6 pounds). This innovative design makes the camera exceptionally well-suited for documentary filmmaking, news gathering, corporate video production, and any application where mobility and discretion are paramount. At the heart of the EOS C70 lies Canon's next-generation Super 35mm Dual Gain Output (DGO) sensor, co-developed with the same technology found in the flagship EOS C300 Mark III. This sensor reads each photodiode with two different gain circuits: one optimized for saturation and highlight retention, the other prioritized for low noise in shadow areas. The two signals are then combined to produce imagery with over 16 stops of total dynamic range, delivering rich, clean shadows alongside vibrant, detailed highlights. The powerful DIGIC DV7 image processor enables internal 4K recording at up to 120 frames per second with 4:2:2 10-bit color sampling, as well as 2K recording up to 180 fps in Super 16mm crop mode. Recording codecs include XF-AVC (MXF) in both ALL-I and Long GOP formats, as well as MP4/HEVC options, with Cinema RAW Light also supported on select models.

The EOS C70 is exceptionally well-equipped for professional production without extensive rigging. A built-in motorized ND filter system offers up to 10 stops of neutral density (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 stops), allowing precise exposure control while maintaining desired depth of field. Dual mini-XLR audio inputs with manual control dials enable professional audio capture directly to camera, while a time code input/output terminal facilitates multi-camera synchronization. The 3.5-inch vari-angle LCD touchscreen features Canon's Direct Touch Control system, providing intuitive access to key settings including ISO, white balance, aperture, and recording start/stop. Advanced autofocus capabilities include Dual Pixel CMOS AF with EOS iTR AF X, which employs deep learning-based head detection for reliable subject tracking, even at high frame rates. Compatibility with Canon's extensive RF lens lineup is standard, and the optional Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x allows use of EF lenses while boosting effective aperture by one stop and maintaining full-frame angle of view on the Super 35mm sensor.
