About the ClearOne Dante Ceiling Microphone Array Interface

The ClearOne Dante Ceiling Microphone Array Interface is a specialized networking appliance designed to integrate ClearOne's beamforming microphone arrays, such as the CHAT 150, into a Dante audio-over-IP network ecosystem. This device acts as a critical bridge between the proprietary digital output of the microphone array and the standardized Dante protocol, enabling the microphone's multiple audio channels to be streamed as low-latency, synchronized digital audio across a standard Ethernet network. Its primary function is to future-proof and simplify large-scale audio system installations in corporate, education, and government environments by allowing microphone signals to be treated like any other networked data source, eliminating the need for dedicated analog or AES/EBU cabling runs back to a central DSP.

The interface unit typically features a Dante network port for connection to the primary network switch and a dedicated control/data port that connects directly to the ceiling-mounted microphone array via a single Cat5e/6 cable. This single cable carries both power to the microphone (often via PoE) and the bidirectional digital audio and control data. The device handles the encoding, packetization, and clock synchronization required for the microphone's output to appear as one or more Dante channels on the network, which can then be routed to any Dante-enabled mixer, recorder, or DSP anywhere on the network. This provides immense flexibility in system design, allowing for centralized, decentralized, or redundant audio processing architectures.

Configuration and management are performed through ClearOne's proprietary software, which allows an integrator to set parameters such as microphone beam steering, gain, and Dante channel assignment. The interface also often includes features for network redundancy, such as support for Dante Primary and Secondary network ports. By adopting the Dante standard, ClearOne enables its advanced microphone technology to interoperate seamlessly with a vast range of third-party professional audio equipment, from mixing consoles to conferencing codecs. For installations where scalable, flexible, and high-quality audio networking is a requirement, this interface is an essential component that brings premium beamforming microphones into the modern AV-over-IP infrastructure.
