About the Crown IQ-PIP-USP2 Programmable Input Processor Module

The Crown IQ-PIP-USP2 is a programmable input processor module designed for Crown's PIP (Programmable Input Processor) modular architecture, adding comprehensive digital signal processing to compatible Crown amplifiers including the Macro-Tech, Macro-Tech i, CTs, and Com-Tech series. This module fits into the rear-panel PIP bay of compatible amplifiers, transforming a standard power amplifier into a fully configurable loudspeaker management system with crossover, equalization, delay, limiting, and input routing capabilities. The USP2 features two analog input channels each with programmable gain staging, plus three remote level control ports supporting standard Crown PIP-RLY and PIP-RMK wall panel remote controls for attenuating individual channels or master level from projection booths or podium locations. The ladder network topology, a hallmark of Crown's analog signal path design, ensures ultra-low distortion and exceptional sonic transparency.

Configuration and control are achieved via the legacy IQwic software for Windows-based computers, communicating through the amplifier's IQ (Intelligent Quartet) network or directly via RS-232 connection. The module provides clickless mute relays on both input and output stages, eliminating audible pops when muting or unmuting channels during live performances. Comprehensive signal processing features include adjustable input gain from 6 dB to 41 dB, two 6-pole Linkwitz-Riley crossover filters (switchable between high-pass, low-pass, and band-pass modes), constant-directivity horn equalization, seven bands of parametric EQ per input, adjustable delay up to 80.6 milliseconds per output, and precision peak and RMS limiting. The USP2 includes LED indicators for signal presence (green), -20 dB, -10 dB, clip (red), and power status. Two 15-volt DC outputs provide phantom power for condenser microphones when connected to appropriate Crown input panels.
