Description
The Crown Audio XTi 1000 is a two-channel power amplifier from the renowned XTi series, featuring a switch-mode universal power supply and integrated digital signal processing in a lightweight 2U chassis. It delivers 275 watts per channel at 8 ohms, 500 watts at 4 ohms, and can be bridged for up to 1400 watts at 4 ohms, making it suitable for a variety of portable and installed sound applications. The amplifier includes a front-panel LCD for navigation, six parametric filters per channel for EQ, crossover filters, delay, and an output limiter to prevent clipping.
However, users have reported several power-related reliability concerns with this model. A common issue is the amplifier failing to power on, often traced to failed IGBTs in the power supply section or problems with the soft-start relay circuit. Others have experienced intermittent power behavior, including loud pops and bangs during operation, or complete shutdowns when connected to unstable generator power. The amplifier's built-in thermal protection will temporarily place it into standby mode if the transformer overheats, resuming operation once cooled. Due to these documented failure points, some users find the XTi 1000 underpowered for demanding speaker loads and caution against running it in bridged mode into 2-ohm loads, which it is not designed to handle.
