The Ensemble Designs BrightEye 81 is a compact professional video converter that converts 3G, HD, and SD-SDI signals to HDMI for confidence monitoring in broadcast, production, and post-production environments. Supporting 3 Gb/s, 1.5 Gb/s, and standard-definition SDI, it enables connection of professional SDI sources to HDMI-equipped displays without HDCP encryption. The BrightEye 81 also functions as a Dual Link HD-SDI to HDMI converter and can convert Dual Link 4:4:4 signals to 3G-SDI Level B while providing HDMI monitoring. Two reclocked SDI loop outputs maintain signal integrity for downstream equipment. The Ensemble Designs (now Plura) BrightEye 81 is a broadcast-grade, ultra-compact video converter designed to bridge professional SDI workflows with standard consumer HDMI displays. Specifically, it accepts standard definition (SD-SDI), high definition (1.5 Gb/s HD-SDI), and 3 Gb/s (3G-SDI) signals and seamlessly converts them into an HDMI output. This makes it an essential tool for edit suites, mobile broadcast trucks, and live event AV racks where technicians need to feed uncompressed, high-quality SDI video feeds directly into inexpensive flat-panel LCDs or projectors for confidence monitoring.

Unlike many budget converters, the BrightEye 81 ensures that the integrity of the original broadcast signal remains intact. The unit does not natively scale the video resolution; instead, it outputs the HDMI signal at the exact same resolution and frame rate as the incoming SDI feed. Furthermore, it automatically demultiplexes and passes along any embedded audio within the SDI stream, embedding it directly into the HDMI output so audio can be monitored directly from the television's speakers without requiring a separate audio demuxer.
