Extron DSC HD-3G A Scaler

The Extron DSC HD-3G A is a high-performance video scaler and audio embedder designed specifically to convert HDMI signals into broadcast-standard 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and standard definition SDI formats. In live event production, television studios, and complex AV environments, HDMI cables are inherently limited by strict distance constraints. This device allows AV technicians to take an HDMI output from a laptop, media player, or prosumer camera and scale it into a robust SDI signal that can be reliably transmitted over long distances using traditional 75-ohm coaxial cable. It features two simultaneous SDI outputs, allowing you to feed a main broadcast switcher while concurrently sending the same signal to a local confidence monitor.

Beyond basic conversion, the DSC HD-3G A utilizes Extron’s advanced video processing engine to provide seamless upscaling, downscaling, and high-quality deinterlacing up to 1080p/60 and 2K resolutions. A critical feature for live production is its Genlock input, which accepts black burst or tri-level sync to lock the SDI output precisely to the facility's master timing system, ensuring glitch-free switching. Furthermore, it offers highly flexible audio embedding; the unit can pass through the digital audio already present on the HDMI feed, or it can embed a completely separate two-channel analog audio source via its rear captive screw terminal directly into the SDI output stream.
