Extron IN1508 Scaling Presentation Switcher

The Extron IN1508 is an eight-input, multi-format AV presentation switcher and scaler that acts as the central hub for mid-sized boardroom and classroom systems. Designed primarily to manage the transition between standard-definition analog formats and high-resolution digital computer video, it accepts a wide array of legacy signals—including two composite video, two S-video, one component video, two RGB computer video (VGA), and one digital DVI-D input. Its internal high-performance scaler then upconverts or cross-converts any selected input to a single, unified high-resolution output (selectable up to 1920x1200 or 1080p/60), ensuring that the main display or projector never has to resync when switching between drastically different source types.

Beyond basic switching and scaling, the IN1508 is equipped with several features tailored for live presentations. It offers seamless, glitch-free switching with transition effects (like cut-to-black), and includes a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode, allowing a video source (like a DVD player or document camera) to be displayed in a customized window over a high-resolution computer background. It also manages audio routing with an 8-input stereo audio switcher that features independent gain and attenuation controls for each channel, ensuring volume levels remain consistent when switching between consumer and pro-level audio sources.
