About the Ferrofish Model A16 MK-II AD/DA Converter

The Ferrofish Model A16 MK-II is a high-performance, standalone 32-channel analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converter designed for professional audio studios and live sound systems. It serves as a critical bridge between the analog and digital domains, providing 16 pristine analog inputs and 16 analog outputs while connecting to a computer or digital mixer via a single high-speed USB 2.0 or optional Dante/AES67 network interface. The unit is built around premium components, including Burr-Brown converters and high-grade analog circuitry, to deliver transparent audio conversion with exceptionally low noise and distortion. This makes it an ideal solution for expanding the I/O count of a digital audio workstation, interfacing outboard analog gear with a DAW, or adding high-quality analog outputs to a digital mixing console.

A key feature of the A16 MK-II is its flexible connectivity and clocking. The analog I/O is provided on DB25 connectors, requiring breakout cables to standard XLR or TRS, which keeps the main unit compact and reduces cable clutter at the device. It supports sample rates up to 192 kHz and includes advanced word clock I/O with termination control for integration into larger digital audio systems. The front panel provides clear metering for all channels and intuitive controls for setting sample rate, clock source, and network parameters. The robust steel chassis ensures reliable operation while effectively shielding the sensitive electronics from interference.

The unit is designed for simplicity and reliability in both studio and touring environments. Its drivers provide stable, low-latency performance with major DAWs on both Mac and Windows platforms. The optional Dante card turns the A16 MK-II into a powerful network audio interface, allowing it to send and receive 32 channels of audio over a standard Ethernet network to compatible mixers, recorders, or other Dante devices. The Ferrofish A16 MK-II is respected for its sonic neutrality, build quality, and versatility, offering a high channel count of professional-grade conversion in a single, reliable unit.
