The Finisar FTLF8524E2KNL is a high-performance, industry-standard SFP+ (Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus) optical transceiver module designed for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 8G/16G Fibre Channel applications in data center, enterprise networking, and storage area network (SAN) environments. This hot-pluggable module supports data transmission at a rate of 10.3125 Gbps for Ethernet and 8.5 Gbps or 14.025 Gbps for Fibre Channel protocols over multimode fiber (MMF). It utilizes a 850nm VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) transmitter and a PIN photodiode receiver, engineered to achieve reliable communication over link distances of up to 300 meters on OM3 fiber or 400 meters on OM4 fiber, making it suitable for intra-rack, inter-rack, and building backbone connections within a campus.
This transceiver is built to stringent multi-source agreement (MSA) specifications, ensuring mechanical and electrical compatibility with a wide range of networking equipment from major switch and router manufacturers. It features digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) capabilities, also known as Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM), which provides real-time access to operational parameters such as temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, transmitted optical power, and received optical power. This visibility allows network administrators to proactively monitor link health, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance without taking the link offline.
