The FIS F1-8513HR (often referred to simply as the F18513HR) is a rugged, highly accurate hand-held optical power meter engineered for field technicians, network installers, and laboratory professionals testing and maintaining fiber optic networks. Designed to measure absolute optical power and insertion loss in both single-mode and multimode fiber runs, it serves as an essential diagnostic tool for verifying link budgets and troubleshooting connectivity drops. To survive the physical rigors of outside plant (OSP) environments, industrial settings, and crowded server rooms, the unit is housed in a high-impact plastic casing and securely wrapped in a heavy-duty protective rubber drop boot. It is most frequently paired with a matching FIS Hand Held Light Source to form a complete, bi-directional optical loss test set.

Internally, the F1-8513HR utilizes a large 2mm Germanium photodiode detector, granting it an impressive 70 dB dynamic range that typically measures signals from +5 dBm down to -65 dBm. It provides incredibly precise readings with a 0.01 dB measurement resolution and allows operators to easily toggle between the industry's most common testing wavelengths (typically 850nm, 1310nm, and 1550nm). To guarantee measurement accuracy across different cable types, it features an independent Zero Set function, enabling technicians to store a unique zero-reference baseline for each specific wavelength.
