Unlike simple, one-way DMX output boxes, the "bi-directional" capability means it features both a DMX Out port (to drive the physical lighting fixtures) and a DMX In port (to receive commands from a dedicated lighting console).

Because hybrid spaces like auditoriums and houses of worship often switch between basic automated Crestron touch-panel control and live manual operation via a lighting desk, this interface allows both systems to seamlessly coexist. It connects to the primary Crestron media processor via a single RS-232 or RS-422 serial port and intelligently merges the control data from both sources before sending the final signal out to the lights.
