About the Intelix DIGI-USB2 1-Port USB 2.0 Over Twisted Pair Extender
The Intelix DIGI-USB2 is a professional extender system that transmits a full USB 2.0 signal over a single twisted-pair Cat5e/Cat6 cable, effectively overcoming the standard 5-meter distance limitation of a USB cable. It consists of a local transmitter unit and a remote receiver unit. The transmitter connects to a host computer's USB port, while the receiver provides a standard USB Type-A port at the remote location, allowing peripherals such as printers, scanners, storage drives, touchscreens, or license dongles to be placed up to 50 meters (approx. 164 feet) away. The system is transparent to the host computer and peripheral; the connected device appears as if it is directly plugged in, requiring no special drivers on the host, which ensures broad compatibility with virtually any USB 2.0 device.
This extender utilizes advanced signal processing to maintain data integrity over the extended copper link. It is designed for reliability in commercial installations, with compact, rugged metal enclosures that can be discreetly mounted. Some models support Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), where the remote receiver can be powered via the same Cat5e cable used for data transmission from a PoE switch or injector, simplifying installation by eliminating the need for a separate power outlet at the remote end. This feature is particularly useful for powering devices like touchscreens or compact printers in conjunction with providing the data link.
For system integrators in digital signage, kiosk, education, and industrial control applications, the Intelix DIGI-USB2 solves a fundamental connectivity challenge. It enables the flexible placement of USB-dependent equipment far from the controlling computer, facilitating cleaner installations, centralized equipment management, and the deployment of peripherals in locations where running a standard USB cable would be impractical or impossible. It provides a cost-effective and reliable method for extending the reach of the ubiquitous USB interface within structured cabling environments.
