JBL PD764 Mid/High Frequency Coaxial Speaker

$13,786.00 - $20,299.00

The PD764 Precision Directivity™ loudspeaker provides high-impact sound reinforcement at throw distances that are beyond the reach of single-driver designs. A single module produces greater than 104 dB SPL (continuous) at distances of 50 m (165 ft). The PD764 may be used in clusters with other PD family modules or singly as part of a distributed system. PD100 series low-frequency elements may be added to the array to extend bandwidth and pattern control to the lowest octaves.

About the JBL PD764 Mid/High Frequency Coaxial Speaker

The JBL PD764 is a professional, high-output mid/high-frequency coaxial loudspeaker engineered for use in large-scale, multi-way sound reinforcement systems, typically as part of a point-source array or cluster. Its coaxial design integrates a high-frequency compression driver mounted concentrically within the voice coil of a large-format low-frequency driver, ensuring perfect acoustic alignment of the two sources. This configuration results in a coherent wavefront with consistent phase response, providing uniform frequency dispersion and precise localization of sound across a wide coverage area. The loudspeaker is designed to handle the critical midrange and high-frequency spectrum with exceptional clarity, power handling, and dynamic range, making it suitable for demanding applications in major concert venues, touring sound systems, performing arts centers, and large houses of worship where vocal intelligibility and detailed music reproduction at high sound pressure levels are paramount.

Performance is driven by its sophisticated transducer technology. The low-frequency section typically utilizes a large-diameter driver optimized for the mid-bass and lower-midrange frequencies, providing the foundational power and warmth for vocals and instruments. The coaxial high-frequency driver, often featuring a neodymium magnet structure and a precision waveguide, handles the upper mids and highs with high efficiency and controlled directivity. This integrated approach minimizes interference patterns and lobing issues common in separate driver designs, yielding a smooth, predictable polar pattern that is essential for consistent audience coverage. The system is passive, requiring external amplification and active crossover processing to define its precise operating bandwidth and to integrate seamlessly with dedicated subwoofers and other system components.

Constructed for rigorous professional use, the PD764 is housed in a rugged, plywood enclosure with a durable textured finish. It features extensive integrated rigging hardware, including multiple flush-mounted points, allowing for secure flying in complex arrays or cluster configurations. The design prioritizes both acoustic performance and practical deployment, enabling system designers to create tailored coverage patterns for large spaces. As a high-performance coaxial component, the PD764 offers sound engineers and system integrators a powerful tool for delivering articulate, coherent, and high-fidelity sound reinforcement across extensive listening areas, forming the sonic core of high-output, multi-way loudspeaker systems.
