The JBL Professional VT4889 is a high-performance, large-format, three-way line array element engineered for major touring, large-scale fixed installations, and stadium-level sound reinforcement. As a component of JBL's VERTEC series, it is designed to be flown in large arrays to create a coherent, highly directional sound field with exceptional output and clarity over long distances. The enclosure utilizes a composite construction of advanced materials, resulting in a structure that is exceptionally rigid and lightweight, which is critical for maximizing payload capacity and simplifying rigging in complex flown systems. Its three-way design incorporates dedicated transducers for low, mid, and high frequencies, each powered by its own dedicated internal amplifier module in its powered variant, though passive versions also exist. This dedicated approach allows for precise control and optimization of each frequency band, minimizing intermodulation distortion and delivering a powerful, articulate sonic character.

The heart of the VT4889's performance lies in its advanced acoustic design and integrated drive electronics. It features JBL's Differential Drive technology in its low-frequency section—a dual-voice-coil design that provides high power handling and exceptional thermal management. The midrange is handled by a large-format compression driver coupled to a proprietary waveguided mid-horn, ensuring smooth, consistent coverage and high efficiency. The high frequencies are reproduced by another compression driver mounted on a sophisticated, constant-directivity horn.
