Juice Goose SCV-SNMP

$0.00

WAN connection requires a Juice Goose SCV-SNMP network card (also applicable for the SBN models), also referred to as NetAgent. This card mounts internally to the UPS through an expansion slot on the back of the chassis. While a variety of I/O options and functions are available for this network card, the simplest form provides the same monitoring and management functions as Local or LAN connections. ViewPower Software works with this SNMP connection to provide a GUI dashboard.

View Product Features

  • SNMP compatibility: The card enables the UPS to be managed as a network device via SNMP, allowing system administrators to monitor its status using network management software.
  • Web browser control: It allows for monitoring and control of the UPS through a graphical user interface (GUI) via a standard web browser.
  • Remote monitoring: The SCV-SNMP card allows administrators to remotely check critical UPS parameters and receive status alerts.
  • Remote control: In addition to monitoring, the card provides remote control over UPS functions. This can include controlling programmable power outlets for load shedding or power cycling connected equipment.

About the Juice Goose SCV-SNMP

The Juice Goose SCV-SNMP is a network management module designed to integrate power distribution units (PDUs) and other supported devices into an enterprise-level network monitoring and control infrastructure. Its core function is to serve as a communications gateway, translating device-specific data and control commands into the standardized Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). This allows facility managers, broadcast engineers, and IT administrators to monitor critical power parameters and control outlet states remotely from a central network operations console. The module is typically installed internally within compatible Juice Goose power distribution equipment, adding intelligent, networked capabilities to robust power hardware, thereby transforming a simple PDU into a smart, manageable node on the network.

Through SNMP, the module enables comprehensive visibility into the power environment. It can report real-time data such as total current draw, voltage, frequency, power factor, and kilowatt-hour consumption for the entire unit or individual outlets, depending on the host PDU's capabilities. This data is essential for capacity planning, identifying underutilized or overloaded circuits, and monitoring energy efficiency. Furthermore, it provides the ability to remotely cycle power to individual outlets on a switched PDU, a critical function for rebooting locked-up equipment without requiring physical access to the rack, which is invaluable for managing distributed equipment in data centers, remote broadcast trucks, or unmanned technical rooms.

The module enhances system reliability by enabling proactive monitoring and alarm generation. Users can configure thresholds for parameters like current draw or temperature. If a threshold is exceeded, the SCV-SNMP module can generate SNMP traps—asynchronous alert messages—sent directly to a network management system (NMS) like Nagios, SolarWinds, or PRTG. This allows IT staff to respond to potential issues such as circuit overloads or failing cooling before they cause equipment downtime. By providing both detailed performance metrics and direct control through a universal network protocol, the Juice Goose SCV-SNMP module is a key component in modernizing power infrastructure, ensuring high availability, and enabling efficient remote management of critical technical systems.
