About the Kiloview KVW-U1-4-NDI 1U 1U 4 Channel SDI to NDI Quad SDI Video Encoder
The Kiloview KVW-U1-4-NDI is a professional 1U rackmount video encoder designed to bridge traditional broadcast SDI infrastructure with modern IP-based production workflows. Its primary function is to ingest up to four independent SDI video feeds—supporting formats up to 3G-SDI—and encode each one into a high-quality, low-latency NDI|HX or full NDI stream simultaneously. This enables broadcasters, live event producers, and AV integrators to seamlessly integrate cameras, graphics servers, replay systems, and other SDI sources into software-based production environments like vMix, OBS Studio, or NewTek's TriCaster, or to distribute them across a standard Gigabit Ethernet network for flexible routing and multi-view monitoring. By converting baseband video to the NDI protocol, the device liberates sources from the physical constraints of coaxial cable, allowing them to be accessed as network resources from any connected computer or device on the LAN.
The encoder is engineered for reliability and ease of integration in 24/7 operational environments. It features four auto-sensing BNC inputs that support SD, HD, and 3G-SDI signals with embedded audio. Advanced encoding settings are accessible via a user-friendly web-based GUI, allowing administrators to configure parameters such as bitrate, latency mode, and stream naming for each channel to optimize performance for the specific application, whether it's a contribution link or a studio production source. The unit also provides essential monitoring functions, displaying real-time status for each channel including input signal presence, encoding bitrate, and network connectivity. Power over Ethernet (PoE+) support is a key feature, significantly simplifying installation in remote or difficult-to-power locations by delivering both data and power through a single Ethernet cable.
Built with a robust metal chassis and fanless design for silent operation, the KVW-U1-4-NDI is ideal for both fixed installations and mobile production racks. Its compact 1U form factor maximizes rack space efficiency. By offering quad-channel encoding in a single unit, it provides a cost-effective and space-saving solution for transitioning to IP-based production. The device represents a critical node in the evolving broadcast ecosystem, effectively future-proofing existing SDI equipment by making it instantly compatible with the growing ecosystem of NDI-enabled production, streaming, and control software, thereby enabling more flexible, scalable, and cost-efficient production workflows.
