Operating remotely from the actual lamp harness, it serves as the control hub and power supply for the lights, allowing the heavy electronics to remain on the floor while the lightweight tubes are rigged overhead or taped directly to set walls.

Because traditional magnetic ballasts for fluorescent lights cause severe on-camera flicker—especially when shooting at high frame rates or non-standard shutter angles—cinematographers require specialized electronic ballasts. The BAL-427 solves this by driving the lamps at an ultra-high frequency of 25kHz, guaranteeing a completely flicker-free and dead-quiet light source for sensitive audio recording environments.
