About the Leprecon LP-612 Microplex DMX Console

The Leprecon LP-612 is a compact, manual two-scene preset microplex DMX lighting console designed for straightforward control of a limited number of dimmers or intelligent fixtures in small to medium-sized applications. It is a classic workhorse in venues like school theaters, churches, small clubs, and mobile DJ setups where simplicity, reliability, and ease of operation are prioritized over advanced programming features. The console's interface is divided into two distinct scenes, A and B, each with an identical bank of 12 physical faders. This two-scene preset architecture allows an operator to manually set up the next lighting look on the B-scene faders while the current look is active on the A-scene, and then crossfade seamlessly between the two scenes using a dedicated master crossfader. This intuitive, tactile workflow makes it an excellent tool for live performances where cue transitions need to be executed in real-time.

The console outputs control data via the Microplex protocol on a 3-pin XLR output, which is compatible with a wide range of older Leprecon and compatible dimmer packs. Critically, it also features a DMX512 output on a second 3-pin XLR, providing modern compatibility with standard DMX dimmers and fixtures, though it is important to note that the console itself operates in the Microplex language internally. This dual-output capability offers significant flexibility, allowing it to interface with both legacy and contemporary equipment. Each of the 12 control channels can be individually assigned to a DMX start address in blocks, providing basic addressing control for patching dimmers to the console's channels.

Built with a sturdy metal chassis, the LP-612 is designed for the rigors of road use and features a clear, functional layout with LED indicators for power, output, and scene selection. It lacks the memory storage and complex cue sequencing of larger digital consoles, instead focusing on direct, hands-on control. This makes it an ideal choice for operators who prefer a physical connection to their lights, for educational environments teaching basic lighting principles, or as a reliable backup console in larger systems. Its straightforward design ensures quick setup and operation with minimal training, providing essential lighting control in a robust and accessible package.
